The use of fiber optic monitoring for diagnosing and assessing the condition of a large-diameter sewage system

Diagnostics and evaluation of the technical condition of collectors requires conducting multi-criteria, complex analyses (often exceeding the standard recommendations) and using modern construction measurement techniques, increasing the safety of their operation. The paper will present experiences based on the assessment of the technical condition of a large-diameter sewage collector after several decades of operation. The issues of methods of diagnosing the causes of operational problems by means of modern measurement techniques and numerical models reflecting local geotechnical conditions and existing infrastructure will be discussed.

The presentation will focus on the problem of corrosion protection of pipes and welded joints during trenchless installations. The presentation will present the qualitative development of factory anti-corrosion and laminate insulations, as well as their quality parameters that guarantee proper protection of pipes. In addition, methods of anti-corrosion protection of welded joints will be discussed in the context of their exposure to high mechanical loads during jacking and drilling.

Innovative and environmentally friendly trenchless replacement of water and gas connections

There are hundreds of thousands of aging water and gas pipes in Europe that need to be replaced, but this is costly, time consuming and burdensome. It is extremely important that the public utility industries use innovations to solve these problems. New techniques, such as the trenchless method to replace water and gas connections using the KPP Kobus pipe winch, is a valuable tool to achieve faster, safer and cheaper results. Kobus offers a quick and inexpensive technique that reduces interference, removes old decommissioned pipes, minimizes the risk of destruction of existing underground infrastructure is safer than other methods. And most importantly, it introduces a new PE pipe in place of the old one and secures the tightness of the system for many years.

In this paper there will be discussed a case of failure of the casing of a large-diameter sewage collector. The stages of diagnostics, design and repair of the collector casing by means of multistage pressure injection will be presented. The technologies of repairs and protections of the collector structure, adapted to local soil conditions, will be discussed, as well as the procedures of assessing the effectiveness of the staged injections during the execution of soil reinforcement and collector repair.

During the presentation the Direct Pipe projects implemented by PPI CHROBOK S.A. technology will be analysed. Drilling in Serbia under the Vielika Morava river and in the vicinity of Nowy Targ under the Białka river was characterized by complex geological conditions in the form of gravels and pebbles. Direct Pipe as a modern technology for the construction of pipelines works in such conditions reducing the risk of an unstable borehole and maintaining circulation of drilling mud.

Engineering aspects of implementation of the flagship microtunnelling projects on the example of microtunnelling Vilnius Narbutto, EC Żerań and Czajka Treatment Plant

Recent years have made it possible to use the full range of trenchless GRP pipe applications. These pipes are successfully used in pressure and non-pressure installations. Depending on the project conditions, different technical parameters are decisive for the selection of material.
What all Amiblu’s flagship projects have in common is their strategic nature. The design and successful execution of pipelines is based on engineering knowledge, knowledge of product features, positive past experience and professional support from the piping system supplier.
The conference is an excellent place to share good practices with all participants of the construction process to enable better execution of even larger projects.

During the paper the installation of the pipeline under the Sanoczek River will be discussed. The speaker will discuss the complications occurring during such a large project. The scale of the project was record-breaking. The length of the hole was 1124 m and the diameter of the installed gas pipeline was 1320 mm.

Pipe Express – fast and economic gas pipelines installation

Pipe Express is an innovative, partially trenchless technology of laying pipelines at small depths without the need for wide technological trenches. It enables the installation of steel pipelines with a diameter of 700 – 1500 mm underground. The system ensures very high efficiency of laying the prepared pipeline – even up to 750 m a day. When using this solution there is no need to drain the ground or cut down a wide forest strip. The required construction site is limited to 1/3 of the width of a traditional site needed for laying pipelines using traditional methods. Thanks to this, the environmental impact of this method is significantly lower than in case of other conventional methods.

Renovation of small egg-shaped profiles in the Prague sewage network

The use of basalt gutters in the renovation of sewers in Prague has become a standard not only in the Prague sewage network. The manufacturer, together with the operator and investor (Prague Waterworks and Veolia), tries to design further elements, segments and gutters for renovation with minimal impact on the static of the sewer, and both with maximum use of the original construction of the sewer.

Issues related to the design and construction of retention tanks using traditional and trenchless methods, on the example of the tank in Jarocin

The technical presentation concerns the investment “Reconstruction of the sanitary sewage system and water supply system in the center of Jarocin”. The investment includes, among other things, the construction of large-diameter retention tanks with a diameter of 2,8 m made of GRP pipes, which will be built using the excavation method and the microtunneling method. Thanks to this investment, the city of Jarocin will gain a new sewage system within the old market and will protect historic buildings from flooding.

PE-RC in trenchless technologies. Materials, tests, applications

PE100 and PE100 RC are similar materials, however, studies reflecting the probability of damage occurring during installation with trenchless methods show how much the characteristics of pipes made of PE100 RC differ from those of the 1990s. Pipes made of PE100 RC as co-extruded layered constructions are particularly suitable for trenchless techniques and thanks to their properties provide a high safety factor and reliability of installations made in this technology.
