WE AWARD THE BEST PROJECTS USING TRENCHLESS TECHNOLOGY
The unique on the European scale prize TYTAN, awarded by magazine “Inżynieria Bezwykopowa” [Trenchless Engineering] as well as by votes of the Jury. Each year it goes to especially distinguishing companies within the trenchless technology discipline, not only from Poland but from the whole Europe. This year the winners were announced on September 9th during the Gala in course of the 18th International Conference, Exhibition and Technology Shows Trenchless ENGINEERING.
AWARDS TYTAN 2021
The statue depicts a muscular man, a titan, a symbol of power and power. His torso is entwined with vines, an element of nature, emphasizing symbiosis with nature and trenchless technologies being in harmony with the environment. TYTAN has been designed by Andrzej Krawczak, a sculptor from Kraków. The statuettes are made in the steelworks in Kraków, and then hand-made by the artist.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION:
Domestic companies win the prize since 2003, in the following categories: Project of the year – new installation; Project of the year – renovation; Small trenchless project, product of the year; and since 2004 – European project within the trenchless technologies. This especially important category for the European companies has been created in order to appreciate achievements of the companies, thus popularize the operations and development within the trenchless technology.
It is worth to mention that the nominated projects are evaluated by the Jury consisting of independent, remarkable professionals representing technical universities as well as trade associations, which fact also speaks for uniqueness of this trophy.
The prizes are awarded at the Gala during the annual International Conference, Exhibition and Technology Shows Trenchless ENGINEERING.
Principles of the prize awarding
Each year, winners in individual categories are selected among the companies nominated to the prize by the magazine “Inżynieria Bezwykopowa” [Trenchless Engineering]. They are chosen by voting of the Jury consisting of specialists from the best Polish universities and trade associations as well as of representation of the quarterly. The Jury has a point pool at the disposal: 7, 5, 3, 2, 1 that is distributed among five nominated companies in each category. Companies having the most points win.

Project of the year – new installation
WINNER
PPI CHROBOK S.A. – for HDD crossing of the Vistula River as part of an investment involving the construction of the Jasna wind farm. It was the longest drilling in Poland with the installation of the DN500 pipeline, and probably the first trenchless project using a 6 mm thick stainless steel pipeline. The length of the crossing was 1426 m and the diameter of the drilled hole was 660 mm. Implementation period: November-December 2019.

OTHER NOMINATED PROJECTS
P.R.I. INKOP sp. z o.o. – for the realization of three microtunnels within the framework of construction of the VA sanitary collector and water supply system in Gimnastyczna Street. Three microtunnels were made, with lengths: 1513 m (Dz855, vitrified clay pipe), 506 m (Dz970, PEHD pipe in reinforced concrete casing) and 389 (Dz960, reinforced concrete casing pipe). Implementation period: September 2016 – August 2019.
Investor: Lodz Infrastructure Company.
ZRB Janicki – for performing HDD crossing in difficult geological conditions, under the junction with DK288, railroad line 108, the Czerteż stream, the Sanoczek River and a forested hill, within the framework of the task “Construction of an inter-system gas pipeline connecting the transmission systems of the Republic of Poland and the Slovak Republic together with the infrastructure necessary to operate the Strachocina – border of Poland gas pipeline”. Implementation period: December 2019. – June 2020.

Project of the year – renovation
WINNER
Tolos Construction and Remediation Company – for modernization using the method of relining the DN1600 steel water mains. This was the first such modernization in Poland, both due to the diameters of installed polyethylene (PE) pipes and the length of retractable sections. The pipeline is located in the area of mining damage category III. Implementation period: February 2019. – February 2020.

OTHER NOMINATED PROJECTS
consortium of companies F.H.U. Instbud Stanisław Boguta sp.j., P.P.H.U. AKWA J. Bishop, S. Owczarek sp.j. – for trenchless renovation of the water mains using the method of a glass liner with resins cured with UV: DN800 – 2137.7 m, DN500 – 257.5 m. Implementation period: November 2018. – November 2019.
Investor: Waterworks and sewage company “WOD.-KAN”. sp. z o.o. in Bełchatów
Consortium of companies BLEJKAN S.A and Terlan sp. z o.o. – for renovation of CIPP gravitational sanitary sewage system with the use of UV-cured fiberglass liners of total length 2801,37 m, renovation of gravitational sanitary sewage system with the use of GRP modules of total length 7364,35 m and renovation of sewage wells with the use of building chemistry and GRP panels (273 pcs) together with replacement of manholes. Renovation of a siphoned sewer with a diameter DN400 of 2×6 m (total length of 12 m) was also performed. Implementation time: January 2018. – November 2019.

Small trenchless project
WINNER
AARSLEFF sp. z o.o. – for renovation of the discharge channel section DN400 through installation of 282.5 m of 12 mm thick PAA-LPL-Liner™ composite liner, including installation of the liner in the duct laid perpendicularly (90° arc).

OTHER NOMINATED PROJECTS
P.R.I. INKOP sp. z o.o. – for comprehensive execution of microtunnelling using steel and GRP pipes as part of the task including connection to the transmission network of devices and gas installations of the steam-gas unit planned to be built in the Żerań CHP plant facility. GRP pipe Dz1099 was installed, 350 m long (in one section). Implementation time: October 2018. – June 2019.

ZRB Janicki – for making a 560 m long controlled drilling under the Relief Channel in Racibórz as part of the task including the gasification of the Kuźnia Raciborska commune. Implementation time: April 2020.

European project in trenchless technologies
WINNER
PPI CHROBOK S.A. – for realization of nine crossings in Direct Pipe technology with a total length of 3979 m, nine HDD crossings with a total length of 3979 m and eight microtunnels with a length of 474 m. The works consisted in comprehensive implementation of trenchless crossings as part of the construction of the DN1000 MOP 8.4 MPa gas pipeline from Strachocin-Pogórska Wola together with the infrastructure necessary to operate it. Completion time: June 2018 – July/August 2019.

OTHER NOMINATED PROJECTS
A-Hak Drillcon – for the implementation of the crossing in Direct Pipe technology for the construction of the gas pipeline, which will transmit fuel from the Karish deposit (Israel). The hole with a length of 1100 m and a diameter of 1422 mm was made two months before the deadline in the absence of any negative events on the construction site. The crossing made it possible to bring the gas pipeline out of the Mediterranean Sea to land.
Investor: Energean
Van Vulpen BV – for the installation of HDD three pipelines and a cable shielding in the port of Antwerp (Belgium), allowing for the connection of the investor’s infrastructure with the marine fuel tank. The contractor completed three HDD crossings of 1740 m in length. Pipelines’ diameters ranged from 300 to 400 mm and the cable diameter was 150 mm.

Product of the year
WINNER
Blue Dragon Jet Multitube Belt – a blowing machine with a strip feeder for blowing microduct packets, the so called D=40 mm and D=50 mm railing of teletechnical sewage system. The blowing machine is driven by hydraulic motors.

ARMORED type barrel tools – the most modern solutions in the construction of drilling tools, extremely durable and effective; they are used to widen and stabilize HDD holes. The product has an extensive reference list of projects carried out in Poland.
