Graduate of mining and geology at the Faculty of Mining of the Silesian University of Technology. In 1997, he completed postgraduate studies in mining law at the University of Silesia. Specializing in mining geomechanics, he defended his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Mining of the AGH University of Science and Technology in 2000.
Since 1988, he worked at the Mining Works Company. In 1992, he was employed by the Regional Mining Authority in Katowice. In 1995, he moved to the Higher Mining Authority to take up the position of chief specialist. In subsequent years, he served as director of the OUG in Bytom and then in Gliwice. Since 2005, he was vice president of WUG and president from 2008. In March 2014–2015, he served as the governor of Silesia.
In 2018–2019, he served as vice-rector and rector of the University of Technology in Katowice. Since December 2019, he has been working as a research and technical specialist at the Central Mining Institute. On June 5, 2024, został powołany na stanowisko prezesa WUG.
