The Bridge: A Geotechnical Puzzle in the Heart of Warsaw
The expert will present the geotechnical aspects of the construction of the “The Bridge” skyscraper in Warsaw, where a four-story excavation approximately 18 meters deep was carried out in a densely built-up urban area with a high groundwater table. Keller Polska, as a leader in geotechnical engineering in Poland, implemented a comprehensive pile-raft foundation system based on diaphragm walls, foundation piles, and a horizontal anti-seepage barrier using jet grouting technology, creating a technologically sealed system. The integration of design and construction, the phasing of the work, and the use of a temporary work platform to optimize construction logistics were of key importance. This example demonstrates how advanced geotechnical engineering enables the safe execution of deep excavations in challenging urban conditions.
