A graduate of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology and the Institute of Higher Religious Culture at the Catholic University of Lublin (1993). She obtained her doctorate in technical sciences in 2002 and her postdoctoral degree in geotechnics in 2009. She was awarded the title of professor of technical sciences in 2018.
Her scientific and research interests include: physical and mechanical properties of native and anthropogenic soils, computational models of soil subgrade, interaction between structures and soil subgrade, and methods of strengthening weak soil subgrade.
She is the author or co-author of over 290 publications in domestic and foreign journals, including numerous papers published at domestic and foreign conferences. She has supervised 117 engineering and master’s theses, 10 completed and 2 ongoing doctoral dissertations, reviewed over 370 theses and over 350 articles and conference papers, 4 professorial applications, 8 habilitation applications, 21 doctoral dissertations, and 4 academic textbooks. She is the author or co-author of over 70 expert opinions, opinions, and projects.
Her doctoral thesis entitled “Computational model of a pile made using the high-pressure jet grouting technique” was recognized by the Minister of Infrastructure and awarded by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology. In addition, she was awarded the Bronze Cross of Merit, as well as awards from the Rector for her scientific, teaching, and organizational activities.
As part of her organizational activities, she held the following positions: Chair of the Organizing Committee of the 5th and 11th Scientific Conference of Doctoral Students of Civil Engineering Departments (2004, 2011), Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the 13th National Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and the 2nd National Conference of Young Geotechnical Engineers “Geotechnical Problems of Mining Areas” (2003), Chair of the Organizing Committee of the 68th Krynica Scientific Conference of the Committee on Civil Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Science Committee of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers “Challenges of construction in mining, post-mining, and degraded areas” (2023). She was a co-organizer of the ICEE 2005 International Conference, INEER International Conference on Engineering Education, which took place in Gliwice in July 2005.
From 2007 to 2013, she served as Editorial Secretary of the Architecture – Civil Engineering – Environment (ACEE) journal, and from 2014 to 2016, she was the Construction Section Editor of the same journal.
From 2010 to 2016, she served as Head of Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology and Supervisor of six Scientific Conferences for Doctoral Students of Civil Engineering Faculties.
From 2016 to 2024, she served as Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology, and since September 1, 2013, she has been Head of the Department of Geotechnics and Roads at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology.
She is a member of: the Polish Geotechnical Committee (PKG), the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (ISSMFE), the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians, the Scientific Committee of PZITB, a founding member of the International Geosynthetics Society Polish Charter, the Silesian Regional Chamber of Civil Engineers, the Civil Engineering Commission – Polish Academy of Sciences Branch in Katowice, and the Geotechnics and Underground Infrastructure Section of the Civil and Water Engineering Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In the 2016–2020 term, she served as vice-chair of the Geotechnics and Underground Infrastructure Section of KILiW PAN.
In addition, she is a reviewer for the American Society of Civil Engineers – International Journal of Geomechanics, and since 2021 she has been Associate Editor of the International Journal of Geomechanics. From 2022 to 2024, she was a member of the Silesian Council for Occupational Safety in Construction at the Regional Labor Inspectorate in Katowice. Since 2023, she has been a member of the Association of Engineers and Technicians of Communication of the Republic of Poland.
She holds a certificate from the Polish Geotechnical Committee and has unlimited building qualifications for designing and managing construction works in the field of road engineering. She is the co-author of the academic textbook Geotechnika komunikacyjna (Transport Geotechnics).
