He studied at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Wrocław University of Technology, 1971-1976. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences in 1982 and the academic title of Professor of Technical Sciences in 2003. He has been a full professor since 2007. He is the promoter or supervisor of six defended (with distinction) doctoral theses and four doctoral theses in progress. He has repeatedly prepared reviews of theses for doctoral and postdoctoral degrees, for the title of professor and for the dignity of doctor honoris causa. He has authored numerous editorial reviews of monographs and academic textbooks, as well as a large number of articles and papers in technical and scientific journals, including three indexed by the Philadelphia Institute of Scientific Information (Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology, Water Research, Archives of Civil and Mechanical Engieering), as well as foreign periodicals such as Journal of Civil Engeneering and Architecture, Water Science and The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Transaction. He is a member of the editorial committees of the journals: Archives of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Trenchless Engineering and Geoengineering.
The professor’s scientific activity is highly appreciated: in 2005, he was the winner of the prestigious competition of the Foundation for Polish Science for professorship subsidies (edition: ‘Master 2005’ – research topic: ‘Strategy for adapting the design of sewage networks for the city of the future’). He carried out this project until 2008, when he was elected to the position of Pro-rector of the Wrocław University of Technology for Development.
The University’s College of Electors elected him rector of Wrocław University of Technology for the 2016-2020 term. He started in this function on 1 September 2016.
He is the author or co-author of 480 papers documented in the DONA system, including more than 170 scientific published papers (65 of which are international in scope) and 290 reports on research carried out for the national economy (SPR reports).
