Status of the Trenchless Technology Industry and the Future

This presentation will discuss the use of trenchless technology versus open cut construction, the opportunities and challenges facing the industry, the size of the market in North America versus around the world, and the impact of the International Society for Trenchless Technology, as well as industry specific industry research & development centers. Also presented will be outstanding trenchless new construction and rehabilitation projects in North America. The talk will additionally address the first annual World Trenchless Day set for 22 September in 2016. This global public awareness event is all about expanding the use trenchless technology in the utility construction arena.

Inc. Bernard P. Krzys is the founder of Benjamin Media, Inc., publishers of Trenchless Technology, TBM: Tunnel Business Magazine and six other construction industry business magazines. Bernie’s media background spans 30 years.
Bernie also has a considerable background in manufacturing and utility construction. He served as the President of American Augers, Inc., (now part of The Charles Machine Works/ Ditch Witch.) Bernie additionally had an extensive career as a management consultant with Arthur Andersen & Co. (now Accenture).
He has received the Chairman’s Award from the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT), and has been inducted into the NASTT Hall of Fame
Bernie has served on various boards of directors including NASTT, the National Utility Contractors Association, the Trenchless Technology Center at Louisiana Tech University and the Centre for the Advancement of Trenchless Technologies at the University of Waterloo in Canada.
While at American Augers, Bernie established the company’s position in the HDD market, launched the company into microtunneling with German manufacturer Soltau, was the driving force in developing standards for auger boring machines, and strengthened the company’s international presence.
He started Trenchless Technology in 1992 - now the No. 1 trenchless publication in the world; introduced trenchless education in 1993 and to this day Benjamin Media continues as one of the leading trenchless educators in the world; launched the popular HDD Rodeos in the 1990’s; led Benjamin Media to assume management of the No-Dig Show in 2001 to the present with over 2,000 attendees and has traveled extensively in North America and internationally promoting trenchless technology.
Bernie has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Kent State University in Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army as an officer and is a recipient of the U.S. Army Commendation Medal.
