Electrical Resistivity Tomography for Rapid and Non-Invasive Soil Characterization – Selected Application Examples

This presentation will introduce the electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) method. It will discuss its advantages, limitations, and measurement procedures, as well as present selected case studies described in the literature, including studies conducted in the vicinity of development projects in Warsaw. The presentation will also include the authors’ own research results from an urban environment, whose aim was to investigate the geological structure to a depth of approximately 90 m below ground level. It will be demonstrated that the ERT method enables the rapid acquisition of high-quality data, particularly useful in the case of subsoil requiring precise differentiation between sandy and clayey layers, characterized by a distinct resistivity contrast. For this reason, this technique is widely used in modern geotechnical engineering, allowing trenchless designs to be adapted to actual soil and groundwater conditions as early as the initial stages of a project.

Professionally involved in the implementation of demanding infrastructure, environmental, and industrial projects, including underground construction, large-diameter pipelines, wastewater treatment plants, and civil engineering projects on an international scale. At Inżynieria Rzeszów S.A., he is responsible for production management and the coordination of construction processes. For over 35 years, the company has been carrying out some of the most demanding infrastructure and environmental projects in Poland and Europe.
A graduate of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology, he is also affiliated with the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology and the field of management. His interdisciplinary education allows him to combine knowledge in the fields of construction, underground infrastructure, and environmental engineering, with a particular focus on trenchless technologies.
He combines the experience gained through project implementation with his involvement in the academic community and his interest in modern construction technologies. His interests include modern construction technologies, infrastructure monitoring, numerical modeling, and the use of innovative tools that enhance the efficiency and safety of infrastructure projects.
